Privacy policy

Your book is none of our business.

Chapter Eye exists so you can finish a book you’re proud of. That only works if you can trust us completely with your most personal work. So here is the deal, in plain language first and in full legal detail below: your writing stays yours, no one reads it, nothing trains on it, and you can wipe every trace of it whenever you want.

Your words are yours

You keep full ownership and copyright of everything you write. Always.

Never used to train AI

Your manuscript trains nothing, ours or anyone else's. Not now, not ever.

No one reads your work

No employee access without your explicit authorization, and every access is logged and visible to you.

Encrypted and isolated

Encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in an isolated system with no third-party access.

You set retention

Keep it as long as you like, or tell us to keep nothing between sessions.

Wipe it anytime

One click deletes everything, permanently, including backups on a short schedule.

Effective date: July 9, 2026. The sections below are the formal version of the promises above. If anything here ever seems to conflict with those promises, we will honor the promises.

1. Who we are and what this covers

This policy describes how Chapter Eye (“Chapter Eye,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, protects, and deletes information when you use chaptereye.com and our related applications (the “Service”). It covers two very different kinds of information, and we treat them very differently: your creative work (manuscripts, drafts, notes, story materials, and your conversations with your mentor) and your account information (email address, display name, settings, and billing details).

2. Your creative work: ownership and copyright

You own everything you write. Uploading a manuscript to Chapter Eye transfers no ownership, license, or rights of any kind to us beyond the minimum technical permission needed to store your work, display it back to you, and run the mentoring features you ask for. We claim no copyright interest in your work, no right to publish it, excerpt it, or use it in marketing, and no right to derivative works. Your copyright, including your rights of first publication, remains entirely intact and unaffected by your use of the Service.

3. No AI training, ever

Your manuscript, your notes, and your conversations with your mentor are never used to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model, ours or anyone else’s. When our AI systems read your manuscript, they do so only to serve you in that moment, the way a word processor reads your file to display it. Our agreements with the AI providers that power the Service contractually prohibit them from retaining your content or using it for training.

4. No human access without your authorization

No Chapter Eye employee, contractor, or system reads your creative work in the ordinary course of business. Our production systems isolate your work so that routine operations, debugging, and analytics never expose its contents.

The only exception is support you explicitly request. If you ask us to troubleshoot a problem that requires looking at your content:

  • We ask for your authorization first, through a specific consent step that names what will be accessed and why.
  • Access is limited to the minimum content and time needed to resolve your issue.
  • Every access is logged, and the log is visible to you in your account, showing who accessed what and when.
  • Authorization expires when the issue is resolved, and you can revoke it at any time.

We want nothing to do with the contents of your book. We just want you to finish it.

5. No third-party access, no selling, no sharing

We do not sell, rent, license, or share your creative work or your personal information with third parties for their own purposes, full stop. The only third parties that touch your data are the infrastructure providers we use to run the Service (cloud hosting, payment processing, and the AI providers described above), each bound by contracts that restrict them to processing data solely on our instructions, and each prohibited from retaining or training on your content. We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not share data with data brokers or advertisers.

6. Encryption and security

  • Your work is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher) and encrypted at rest.
  • Your content is stored in an isolated system, logically separated per account, so one user's work is never reachable from another's session.
  • Internal access to production systems requires strong authentication, is restricted to a small set of engineers, and is audited.
  • We monitor for unauthorized access and will notify you promptly, as required by law, if a breach ever affects your data.

7. Retention: you decide how long we keep anything

You control retention. By default we keep your work only so the Service works for you across sessions. In your settings you can shorten that, choose your own retention window, or tell us to keep nothing between sessions. When a retention period ends, or when you delete something, it is removed from our active systems immediately and purged from encrypted backups on a rolling schedule of at most 30 days.

8. Deletion and export: complete wipe, any time

You can permanently delete any project, or your entire account and everything in it, in one click, no email required, no waiting period, no retention “for our records.” Deletion covers your manuscripts, notes, conversations, everything the mentor learned about your book and about you, and all derived data such as summaries and search indexes. You can also export everything you have written and every conversation, in standard formats, whenever you like.

9. Account information we do collect

To run the Service we collect the basics: your email address and display name (via your sign-in provider), your settings, subscription and payment status (payment card details are handled by our payment processor and never touch our servers), and standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) kept briefly for security and reliability. We use privacy-respecting product analytics that never include the contents of your writing.

10. Your rights

Wherever you live, we extend the same rights to you: access, correction, export, deletion, and objection to processing. If you are in a region with specific privacy laws (such as GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), these rights are yours by law and we honor them without making you jump through hoops. We do not discriminate against you for exercising them. To exercise any right, use your account settings or contact us at the address below.

11. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date. If a change meaningfully reduces your protections, we will notify you by email before it takes effect and give you time to export and delete your data first. We will never retroactively weaken the commitments in sections 2 through 5 for content you have already entrusted to us.

13. Contact

Questions, concerns, or requests: email privacy@chaptereye.com. A human will answer.
