The agreement, in good faith.
These are the terms that govern your use of Chapter Eye. We’ve kept them as fair and readable as we can. The short version: your work is yours, use the Service honestly, we’ll do our best for you, and either of us can walk away at any time.
Effective date: July 9, 2026
1. Agreement to these terms
By creating an account or using chaptereye.com and our related applications (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”) and to our Privacy Policy, which is part of this agreement. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. The Service
Chapter Eye is an AI writing mentor. It reads the manuscripts you choose to share with it and offers feedback, guidance, and encouragement. It is a creative tool, not a publisher, agent, editor of record, or provider of legal advice. Feedback is generated to help you; judgment about your book remains yours.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher minimum age in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.
- You are responsible for your account credentials and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.
- Provide accurate account information and keep it current.
4. Your content and your rights
You retain all ownership and intellectual-property rights in everything you upload or create with the Service (“Your Content”). You grant us only a limited, revocable license to store, process, and display Your Content solely to provide the Service to you. This license ends when you delete the content or your account. We claim no other rights, and we will never use Your Content to train AI models, publish it, or share it, as described in our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for Your Content. You represent that you have the rights to the material you upload and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
5. AI-generated feedback
The Service uses AI, and AI can be wrong. Feedback, summaries, continuity notes, and other output may contain errors or reflect judgment you disagree with. Output is provided to inform your own creative decisions, and you are responsible for what you do with it. To the extent any output is capable of copyright, we assign any interest we may have in it to you.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to violate any law or the rights of others, including uploading content you have no right to use.
- Attempt to probe, breach, or circumvent security or access another user's content.
- Reverse engineer the Service, scrape it, or resell access without our written permission.
- Use the Service to develop a competing product or to benchmark for a competitor.
- Interfere with the operation of the Service, including by imposing an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
7. Plans, billing, and cancellation
- The free tier requires no payment details. Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis until cancelled.
- You can cancel anytime from your account settings; your plan stays active through the end of the paid period, and we do not charge again after that.
- If a price changes, we will notify you in advance and the new price applies from your next billing cycle, never retroactively.
- Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable, though if something went wrong, contact us and we will try to make it right.
8. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account, with all of Your Content, at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, and where practical we will warn you first and give you a chance to export Your Content. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 4, 5, and 10 through 13) survive.
9. Our intellectual property
The Service itself, including its software, design, and branding, belongs to Chapter Eye and its licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it under these Terms. Nothing in this section affects your ownership of Your Content.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that feedback will meet your expectations. We do encourage you to keep your own copies of your manuscript; the export tools make that easy.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Chapter Eye will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, or data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or US $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
12. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold Chapter Eye harmless from claims arising out of Your Content or your breach of these Terms, to the extent caused by you.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Before filing any claim, both of us agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting the other and allowing 30 days to respond. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and both parties consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief or limits rights you have under mandatory local law.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will notify you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not, you can export your work and close your account before the change applies.
